/ About the project

The project explores emotional crying as a complex phenomenon, spanning scientific, psychological, sociological, and visual dimensions.
The concept originates from Maurice Mikkers’ scientific photography of tears and from the process of crystallisation, understood as a metaphor: emotion, initially fluid and unstable, settles and becomes an observable form.

The visual identity and exhibition design develop from a perceptual idea: crying alters vision.
Tears blur contours, refract light, and generate new images. This transformation informs both the narrative structure of the installations and the graphic language of the project.

To support the exhibition experience, two complementary catalogues were designed.

The scientific catalogue investigates the theme through the crystallisation of tears, adopting an analytical approach and incorporating scientific, psychological, and sociological contributions.

The popular catalogue, by contrast, translates the theme into an accessible and sensory narrative, centred on visual perception during crying; it includes a fold-out guide that accompanies the reader through the exhibition path.

The decision to produce two catalogues reflects the layered nature of crying: a biological, emotional, and social phenomenon that requires multiple levels of interpretation. The project therefore takes shape as a visual and narrative system that invites visitors not only to observe tears, but to recognise and share them.
